Dr. Maya Miyairi Steel

Dr. Maya Miyairi Steel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science. Her education includes: University of Utah, B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science, University of Utah, M.S., in Exercise and Sport Science, and University of Utah, Ph.D., in Health Promotion and Education, starting her appointment at Utah State University August 2013.

Course taught include:

  • HEP 4100: Foundations of Community Health
  • HEP 5400: Prevention Strategies for Obesity & Disordered Eating
  • HEP 5000: Race, Culture, Class, and Gender Issues in Health
  • HEP 3700: Introduction to Epidemiology for Health Educators

Research focus encompasses health promotion issues such as body weight stigma and social justice issues as they relate to aging and well-being.
